Well, the VGAs were last night (Video Game Awards for those of you who may or may not be under a rock), and the results are in. I can't really say that I'm all that surprised by some of the winners, but I give kudos to Portal 2 and Bastion for swooping up a few of the awards as well, because they deserved it.

Wow, I haven't posted anything here in a while, but I guess I should. The big rush of pre-holiday releases have come and gone, but there are still some things to look forward to in the new year. While everyone else if fawning over things like Bioshock, Max Payne and Mass Effect... I'm looking at Devil Survivor 2 for the Nintendo DS. Because Atlus generally doesn't disappoint.
The box art for SMT: Devil Survivor 2 was released today. It looks pretty. I want it.
The game is due out sometime in early 2012. Looks like we could be off to another good year of gaming!

Well today was one of those days where I go out and buy things which just reaffirms that I can't help being a little bit geeky. Today's random purchases include some anime (Vampire Knight Volumes 1-3 & Freedom Complete Collection), some video games (Crysis 2 Limited Edition and Wild Arms 5 Series 10th Anniversary Edition), and some books (the first four books in George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series -- which I recommend you go and read right now if you haven't done so -- and a strategy guide for Tactic's Ogre: Let Us Cling Together).
With any luck I'll get to do some reviews and impressions of things soon, but I do believe I owe you all some 3DS goodies first. I'll start posting those tomorrow!

The 3DS will be available to North American consumers on Sunday. Can't wait until then? Neither can I. Luckily, my 3DS and a few launch titles have made their ways across my desk and I plan on sharing with you a few tidbits to help you get excited about it. Keep checking back over the next few days for some 3DS Launch Fever, including first impressions on the system, accessories, and some launch titles including Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Super Monkey Ball 3D, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, and Rayman 3D!

Well it appears that Bandai Entertainment has released details of the North American release of the 2008-2009 anime series Tales of the Abyss, a 26-episode retelling of the video game by Bandai, Namco and Sunrise. It appears that the first DVD release in the series will be released on June 7th, 2011 and will contain seven episodes, but will apparently by a sub-only release. There will, however, be a limited edition release which comes bundled with the first volume of the manga. Other extras seem to be sparse, with just a textless version of the opening "Karma", which is available on both versions.
Meanwhile, check out the series trailer!

Bakuman Vol 4 is set for a release of April 5th, and will actually have a digital release one week prior to that on March 28th. To support the launch of this release, VIZ Media has announced that Vol 1 of the series, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (both of Death Note fame), will be available for free on their iPad app until noon PST on Tuesday, March 15th. The story centers around two high school students who plan on one day becoming famed manga artists in Japan.

If you've got a PlayStation Network account and are itching to check out some "new" anime series, then FUNimation has got what you need right now. Until March 21st, check out the first episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Afro Samurai for free, and starting on March 15th until March 28th you can also pick up the first episodes of FLCL and Trigun. Now, I'm not a big fan of Afro Samurai, but I definitely suggest that if you haven't seen either of the other three series that you definitely download these episodes and give them a shot. I mean, it's free, so what do you have to lose?

And I start again! Welcome to Orange Otaku. It's been taking some time to get things off the ground, but I believe I may have a direction in which to head if I can get the time to actually work on it.
I'm hoping to move the site into a more news and article based website, while still retaining some of our former content. The Encyclopedia will be put up again slowly and I'm sure more content will evolve as this site grows legs of it's own. Think of it as a blog with lots of great information and random fun and cool things.
Expect things to be tweaked over the next little while. I'm going to try and keep updates as steady as possible (but we know how that works out). I'm also going to try this Twitter thing, but I don't know if I can actually get into it. However, I can tweet from work, which is actually a really useful place to tweet from, so once I figure out the ins and outs of it, who knows what may happen.
Here's to hoping this launch is successful!
